Standardized Test Accommodations

Standardized test accommodations are adjustments or modifications to the testing environment, format, or procedures that allow individuals with disabilities or other qualifying conditions to more accurately demonstrate their knowledge and abilities. Accommodations may include extended time, additional breaks, a reduced-distraction or private testing environment, assistive technology, or other modifications.

Do you need extra time or other accommodations for the SAT, ACT, MCAT, GRE, LSAT, professional licensing exams, or other standardized tests? Psychological testing may be needed to document a diagnosis, history of difficulties, and the functional limitations that support your request for accommodations.

At MindWorks, we review the documentation requirements for the specific testing organization so that the evaluation addresses the information required for an accommodations request. Depending on your needs, the evaluation may assess ADHD, learning disorders, emotional concerns, cognitive functioning, executive functioning, or other relevant areas. The report will describe the evaluation findings, relevant functional limitations, and recommended accommodations when supported by the results.

Each testing organization makes its own determination regarding whether accommodations are approved.

How Long Does Testing Take?

The length of testing depends on the documentation requirements of the testing organization and the areas being evaluated. A comprehensive evaluation may include approximately 5–6 hours of one-on-one testing, typically divided across 1–3 appointments.

In addition to testing, we review relevant records and documentation and take time to score, interpret, and integrate the results. We also review the documentation requirements for the specific testing organization so that the evaluation addresses the information required for an accommodations request.

A feedback appointment is generally scheduled approximately 2–3 weeks after testing is completed to discuss the findings, recommendations, and next steps.

What Is Included In Each Evaluation?

Initial Intake: After the initial consultation, a comprehensive intake will be conducted to understand the individual's history, current concerns, previous accommodations, and the specific testing accommodations being requested. Relevant documentation requirements from the testing organization will also be reviewed when available.

Full Review:Relevant psychological, educational, medical, and previous testing records will be reviewed when available, including documentation of past accommodations.

One-on-One Testing: The individual will meet one-on-one with Dr. Salanga for standardized psychological testing. The specific testing battery will depend on the individual's history, areas of concern, accommodations being requested, and the documentation requirements of the testing organization.

Testing may examine areas such as:

• Cognitive functioning

• Attention and executive functioning

• Academic skills

• Memory

• Emotional and behavioral functioning

• Other areas relevant to the accommodations request

Evaluation and Interpretation: After testing is complete, Dr. Salanga will score, interpret, and integrate the results into a comprehensive written report. The report will include relevant background information, test results and interpretations, identified functional limitations, and recommendations for accommodations when supported by the evaluation findings.

Report and Feedback Discussion: Report and Feedback Discussion: After the evaluation and report are completed, Dr. Salanga will meet with the individual and/or parent to review the findings, recommendations, and requested accommodations and answer any questions. A copy of the final report will be provided after the feedback appointment.
